Changelog
What's new in the WD4DAN ADIF Editor, most recent first.
v26.10.01 October 17, 2026
- Updated to ADIF 3.1.8: added the JTTY submode of MFSK, and four new SKCC contest IDs (Straight Key Sprint, Straight Key Sprint Asia, Straight Key Sprint Europe, and Weekend Sprintathon). New logs are now written as ADIF 3.1.8.
v26.10.00 October 2, 2026
- Fixed Add Column not offering SIG, SIG_INFO, MY_SIG, or MY_SIG_INFO in its list of fields.
v26.09.51 September 30, 2026
- Fixed the real cause of v26.09.50's issue: a cell error/warning highlight (like "You can not log yourself") on a row below the visible fold stayed unhighlighted until you scrolled to it or reopened the validation dialog. The grid only builds each row's cells when it actually scrolls into view, so highlighting the whole log right after loading missed any row that hadn't been built yet — now every row gets highlighted the moment it's actually rendered, on-screen or not.
v26.09.50 September 30, 2026
- Fixed: on first opening a POTA/SOTA-tagged log, the status bar could report an issue count that included a program-specific error (like "You can not log yourself") before the grid had finished highlighting the affected cell — the count was right, but nothing was shown as an error until you clicked into the grid.
v26.09.49 September 30, 2026
- POTA and SOTA validation now flag "You can not log yourself" as an error when CALL's base callsign matches STATION_CALLSIGN's or OPERATOR's — a portable/QRP suffix like /P doesn't hide that it's the same station.
v26.09.48 September 30, 2026
- Fixed: File → Open's native file dialog could show extra file types (.txt, and briefly .exe/.com in a since-reverted attempt) alongside .adi/.adif. Open now uses the same plain browser file-picker Merge Files already used successfully, instead of the OS-level picker whose filter the browser was expanding unpredictably. Note: a file opened this way no longer supports writing straight back to it with Save (Ctrl+S) — Save now always asks where to save, same as Save As.
v26.09.47 September 30, 2026
- Reverted v26.09.46's File → Open dialog-filter change — it was meant to stop extra file types like .txt from appearing, but instead made the dialog show far more (.exe, .com, etc.) on some systems. Back to the original filter behavior.
v26.09.46 September 30, 2026
- Fixed: Merge Files… allowed .txt files in addition to .adi/.adif — now restricted to just those two.
v26.09.45 September 22, 2026
- Fixed: Tools → Validate…'s flyout submenu could close before the mouse reached it, if the cursor crossed a small gap between the menu item and the flyout too directly.
v26.09.44 September 22, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image now allows up to 5 minutes for the AI to read the images, up from 2 — a large or slow batch is less likely to time out and require the visitor to try again.
v26.09.43 September 22, 2026
- Fixed: POTA validation now flags a row missing both STATION_CALLSIGN and OPERATOR as an error, matching SOTA validation and the documented POTA requirements — it was silently accepted before this fix.
v26.09.42 September 21, 2026
- CNTY and MY_CNTY are now checked in every validation mode against the counties of the row's STATE or MY_STATE, in the ADIF form
STATE,County (for example VA,Fairfax). A county with no state to check it against gets a warning saying so. US counties, Alaska and New Zealand are covered.
- In the grid, the CNTY and MY_CNTY columns are now dropdowns of the row's state's counties.
- Import Paper Log Image: once My State is known, My County becomes a dropdown too. The county read from the sheet is matched to the list, and one that can't be matched is outlined in red. Changing My State clears a county that doesn't belong to it.
v26.09.41 September 21, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image now asks whether the log is Generic, POTA or SOTA before reading it. SOTA logs read MY_SOTA_REF and SOTA_REF and show a SOTA Reference box that fills in My State and My Grid Square from the summit (a dropdown when the summit's association spans several states); a summit-to-summit contact naming several summits becomes one row per summit.
- Help → About now also shows when the SOTA summit list was last updated.
v26.09.40 September 21, 2026
- Opening a log whose MY_SIG is POTA or SOTA now enables that validation mode automatically, with a notice explaining it, instead of asking. Logs with neither (or both) still get the prompt.
v26.09.39 September 21, 2026
- Tools → Find Duplicates now takes the current validation mode into account: in POTA mode, it also matches on SIG_INFO, so a legitimate park-to-park contact with a different park isn't listed as a duplicate.
v26.09.38 September 21, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image's My Grid Square is now also filled in and locked from the park reference, the same way My State already was, whenever the park is found (regardless of how many states it spans).
v26.09.37 September 21, 2026
- Fixed: the top-of-dialog My State box could show a value looked up from the park reference without the table actually gaining a MY_STATE column to match.
- My State is now locked (read-only) at the top of the dialog whenever it was filled in automatically from an unambiguous single-state park, so it can't be hand-edited and accidentally overridden.
- Import Paper Log Image now splits a contact logged as park-to-park with more than one of the other station's parks into one row per park, each with its own SIG_INFO.
v26.09.36 September 21, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image's top-of-dialog boxes now update live: editing one immediately updates that field on every row below, adding the column if it wasn't already there.
- A blank Station Callsign box is now outlined in red.
- A POTA Reference box now appears (after Station Callsign) when the log has a POTA park reference; changing it looks up the new park and updates My State automatically, or turns My State into a dropdown when the park spans more than one state/province.
- Reordered the top-of-dialog boxes to Station Callsign, POTA Reference, My State, My County, My Grid Square.
v26.09.35 September 21, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image's MY_GRIDSQUARE column no longer pads its input out to the width of its own header name, so a short grid square isn't sitting in a needlessly wide box.
v26.09.34 September 21, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image now flags a QSO_DATE with no year written (e.g. "8/24") as medium confidence, not high, and notes that the current year was assumed.
v26.09.33 September 21, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image's My State box is now looked up from the park reference: a single-state park fills it in automatically, and a park spanning more than one state/province becomes a dropdown of just those.
v26.09.32 September 21, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image's review table now shows CONFIDENCE and IMPORT_NOTES as separate columns, and every row gets a color-coded confidence chip (green HIGH, amber MEDIUM, red LOW) instead of only flagging medium/low ones.
v26.09.31 September 21, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image's My County box is now a fixed 50 characters wide, and Station Callsign/My State/My Grid Square are each wide enough that their own label no longer wraps.
v26.09.30 September 21, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image now handles a per-row date written without a year (e.g. "8-24" or "8/24"), assuming the current year, and converts any date it reads into ADIF's QSO_DATE format.
v26.09.29 September 21, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image's optional Station Callsign/My State/My Grid Square boxes are now sized to what they actually need instead of stretching as wide as My County.
v26.09.27 September 21, 2026
- Fixed: a paper-log import that failed with an unclear server error could still count against your daily image limit; the reservation is now refunded reliably even if the request gets interrupted.
- Import Paper Log Image's generic "Server error" message is now more descriptive about what a failure like that usually means and what to try next.
v26.09.26 September 21, 2026
- Import Paper Log Image's review table no longer needs to scroll sideways — every column now sizes itself to fit its longest value, and the AI's notes wrap onto multiple lines instead of stretching the table.
- Import Paper Log Image now carries TIME_ON forward over blank rows, the same way it already does for ditto marks, so a log that only wrote a new time when it changed still gets a time on every row.
- Import Paper Log Image has four new optional boxes above the review table — your own callsign, county, state and grid square — for setting one value across the whole batch; filling one in replaces that field on every row you add.
- Import Paper Log Image's intro notice now shows your actual remaining daily image quota instead of a vague mention.
v26.09.25 September 20, 2026
- CALL, OPERATOR, and STATION_CALLSIGN are now forced to uppercase as soon as you type or paste into their cells, not just when a file is first opened.
v26.09.24 September 20, 2026
- Add Row now carries QSO_DATE/TIME_ON over from the row above it (most new contacts land seconds after the last one), instead of always resetting to the current date/time. Falls back to the current UTC date/time when there's no row above, same as before.
v26.09.23 September 20, 2026
- POTA duplicate-contact detection now also considers SIG_INFO, so a park-to-park QSO with the same call/band/mode/date but a different park is no longer flagged as a duplicate.
- Fixed: running Validate (from the Tools menu, the status bar, or the "Validation Mode" dialog) while in POTA or SOTA mode could make an already-visible issue (like BAND not matching FREQ) disappear from the results instead of showing it alongside the POTA/SOTA-specific ones.
v26.09.22 September 18, 2026
- New File → Import Paper Log Image…: upload photos of a handwritten paper log (the POTA Paper Logsheet works best), review the QSOs read from them, and add them to your log in one undoable step. The photos are sent to an AI service to be read.
- Reads park references, including park-to-park contacts, and expands ditto marks. Imported rows are sorted by date and time, and hard-to-read rows are highlighted for review.
v26.09.21 September 14, 2026
- CALL, OPERATOR, and STATION_CALLSIGN are now checked for looking like a real callsign (at least 2 letters and 1 number).
v26.09.20 September 14, 2026
- Help → About now has a View Changelog link — this page.
v26.09.18 September 14, 2026
- Add Row now carries over BAND, MODE, OPERATOR, STATION_CALLSIGN, and park/summit-reference fields from the row above, when it has a value.
- The status bar's issue count is now labeled "Validation State:", and shows a green "OK" when the log is clean instead of going blank.
- Clicking "Validation Mode: ..." in the status bar now opens a dialog to switch between Generic/POTA/SOTA.
v26.09.16 September 14, 2026
- Right-click now works anywhere on the grid — blank space in the header row and below the last row acts the same as right-clicking a real column/row.
- Hide Column (right-click or View → Show/Hide Columns) is now undoable.
- Add Column… and Delete Column… moved from the Tools menu to the Edit menu.
- Statistics… now has an "Open in QSO Map for more detail…" button.
v26.09.14 September 14, 2026
- Duplicate POTA Log (n-fer) now shows a clear error if the log has no MY_SIG_INFO field to duplicate from, instead of silently creating one.
v26.09.13 September 14, 2026
- Added a Donate link (Help menu, status bar, and About dialog).
v26.09.12 September 13, 2026
- Duplicate POTA Log (n-fer) now warns inline if the old or new park reference isn't found or is inactive.
v26.09.11 September 13, 2026
- Tools → Validate… now opens on mouse hover, and no longer shows a stray highlight when idle.
v26.09.10 September 13, 2026
- Save, Save As, and all Export options now warn before proceeding if the log has validation issues under the current mode.
Entries below are reconstructed from this project's git history rather than a version-by-version log kept at the time — every change up to this point was committed in a handful of large snapshots, not one commit per version, so a few individual version numbers between v1.9.1 and v26.09.10 couldn't be recovered and are grouped together below.
Earlier in development September 13, 2026
- Opening a file now asks whether to apply POTA or SOTA validation rules for the rest of the session.
- CALL/OPERATOR/STATION_CALLSIGN are automatically uppercased when a file is opened.
- POTA park references are now checked against the real, live POTA park list — an unrecognized reference is flagged as a warning, a real-but-inactive park as an error.
- Tools → Validate is now a nested "Validate…" submenu (Generic/POTA/SOTA) instead of three separate buttons.
v1.9.1 September 13, 2026
- Duplicate POTA Log (n-fer)… — bulk-sets MY_SIG_INFO to a new park reference across the whole log, for activations inside multiple overlapping parks.
- POTA park reference format checking (expects a dash-separated prefix/number shape; flags a comma-separated list of references as invalid).
- New validation check: MY_SIG_INFO and STATION_CALLSIGN must be consistent across every row of a POTA log.
- The status bar now also shows the app's own version number, not just the ADIF spec version.
v1.7.0 September 13, 2026
- Row checkboxes now support proper multi-select — a plain click toggles just that row instead of replacing the whole selection.
- Per-cell red/amber highlighting for validation issues, replacing an earlier single warning-icon column.
- Duplicate-contact detection (same CALL/BAND/MODE/QSO_DATE) is now also a live validation warning, not just its own Find Duplicates tool.
- Reordering columns by drag is now undoable.
- Export POTA Log… / Export SOTA Log… (trimmed exports with just the fields each program's validator checks).
- Save and all Export options now warn first if the log has validation issues, instead of proceeding silently.
- View Raw ADIF… and View Current ADIF… (read-only views, each with a Copy to Clipboard button).
- Open in QSO Map… — sends the current log to the separate QSO Map tool.
- Columns now auto-size to fit their content instead of a fixed width.
v1.0.0 — initial release September 12, 2026
- Open, edit, and save ADIF (.adi) log files entirely in the browser — nothing uploaded to a server.
- Save writes directly back to the same file you opened (Chrome/Edge), or downloads a copy in other browsers.
- Merge additional files into the current log; Recent Files remembers your last several opened files.
- Export as CSV.
- Undo/redo, Find & Replace, Add/Duplicate/Delete/Move rows.
- Show/Hide Columns, Reset Columns.
- Add/Delete/Fill/Split Column tools, plus Split Log (one file per distinct value of a chosen column).
- Bulk tools to make CALL uppercase/lowercase and compute FREQ from BAND.
- Fix Time (HHMM → HHMMSS) and Set TIME_OFF = TIME_ON bulk tools.
- Find Duplicates tool.
- Generic, POTA, and SOTA validation, each with its own results dialog.
- Statistics dialog and an About dialog.
